Job aids & how-to guide
The bulk of my work during 2022 was the development of job aids for LSAC Unite, a SaaS platform used for law school admissions. During 2023, I worked on an instructional video project on how to create accessible job aids, which included storyboarding, clickstreams, AI audio, and a how-to guide. While everything we wrote at ACS Learning was collaborative, I was the primary author for the FlexApp job aids and a contributing content developer for the accessibility project. Here are lists of the featured skills and common challenges related to the development of these job aids and the how-to guide:
Featured skills
- Effective Information Architecture: Demonstrated by organizing and structuring job aids in a user-friendly and intuitive manner, ensuring efficient access and comprehension of information.
- Instructional Design for Accessibility: Highlighted by developing accessible job aids and instructional materials, ensuring content is user-friendly for all audiences.
- Collaborative Writing and Editing: Shown through working with a team at ACS Learning on collaborative writing projects, emphasizing teamwork and editing skills.
Common challenges
- Adapting Content to Client Requirements: Managing changes in client preferences, such as the shift from concept job aids to specific or generalized procedure aids.
- Detail-Oriented Documentation: The challenge of maintaining attention to detail in creating specific task job aids, which requires precision and accuracy.
- Integrating Diverse Feedback: Balancing feedback from various stakeholders while maintaining the integrity and purpose of the content.
Concept job aid sample
The job aid linked in this section reflects my work and skills with concept job aids. In the end, the client opted out of posting, most, if not all, the concept job aids and only posted specific or generalized procedure job aids. Thus, you cannot view the About FlexApps concept job aid online. Instead, to view the concept job aid, click About FlexApps.
Specific task job aid sample
Another common job aid I developed is the specific task job aid. The sample linked in this section is found in the LSAC Support Resource Library - FlexApp, specifically Add a Section to a FlexApp. While I have written many types of documentation over the years, I find these types of job aids the most fun to write. I like the attention to detail necessary to write a successful specific task job aid.
How-to guide sample
At ACS Learning, I worked on a multi-functional team were everything was collaboratively written. One such document was the how-to guide, which instructed readers on the process of creating accessible job aids. We created this document from the storyboard and video project. I contributed content and proofed the final copy for publication.
