SME review
This page features two SME feedback samples and reflects how I commonly worked with the client SME. To collaborate with the SME, we submitted work as a Word file and the SME used Track Changes to give feedback. Once the SME added her feedback, I would have a follow up meeting to confirm my understanding of the feedback or to gain further clarification. In each sample section below, I include a full PDF version of the feedback document and the image is a snapshot of the first page of that file. Here are lists of the featured skills and common challenges related to SME reviews:
Featured Skills
- Effective SME Collaboration: Skill in collaborating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), using tools like Word's Track Changes for feedback incorporation.
- Adaptable Content Development: Ability to adapt content based on SME feedback, including adding field descriptions to job aids as required.
- Clear Communication and Understanding: Competence in confirming understanding of feedback through follow-up meetings, ensuring clarity in content development.
Common Challenges
- Integrating Detailed Feedback: Challenge in integrating detailed feedback into technical documentation, especially when it deviates from standard practices.
- Balancing Clarity with Technical Accuracy: Ensuring that the content is both technically accurate and clear to the end-user, based on SME inputs.
- Effective Management of Revisions: Managing revisions efficiently while maintaining the integrity and purpose of the original content.
SME feedback sample 1
The sample linked in this first section is interesting because the SME requested that I include field descriptions for the job aid tasks. Normally, we describe fields in concept job aids or allow the UI context Help explain them. However, after much discussion we agreed that the complexity of the tasks demanded a table that describes the UI fields. You can see in this sample that the feedback was minor, and typically offered confirmation of my description. Click SME Feedback Sample 1 to view the document.
SME feedback sample 2
The sample linked in this second section shows more extensive feedback that was preliminary to a synchronous meeting. Again, you can see in the image and the file linked below that the SME requested that I include field descriptions for the job aid tasks, a practice normally found in our concept job aids. You can see in this sample that the feedback is a little more extensive than the sample above. Click SME Feedback Sample 2 to view the document.
